Once again we're getting major snow in SE Nebraska. It's March 1st already and hard to imagine Junction Motor Speedway and Beatrice are planning on running modified shows in a couple weeks. Good luck!
Speaking of modifieds, Butler County Motorplex near Rising City, Nebraska is up for sale. It wasn't too long ago that BCM ran a weekly sprint car show on Friday nights. We don't see much open wheel there anymore. They're cutting back on weekly programs this season and running special events only. It would be a shame for that track to close. When they prepare the track right, it's a racy joint. I think the location may just be too far off the beaten path.
Only 23 days until the Indy Racing League opens their season at Homestead-Miami Speedway. I'm looking forward to another great season of Indy Car racing. It'll be great to see them running two shows here in the Midwest. They run at Kansas Speedway April, 29 and the new Iowa Speedway on June 24th. The Knoxville Midget Nationals are also running on June 22-23. That makes for a great weekend of racing in Iowa!
Speaking of midgets, it looks as though the USAC July 25th date at Wichita's 81 Speedway has been cancelled. I think perhaps another track should schedule a show to make up for it. Perhaps another track in the Nebraska area...The same track that hosted the USAC midgets for many seasons prior to last year. The high banks of Eagle Raceway anyone?
More midget madness. Another one of those Oklahoma midget drivers has a new website. Check out Brady Bacon's new site, www.bradybaconracing.com. We should probably enjoy watching him now because I doubt he'll be around open wheel long.
More non-wings news. Odessa, Missouri's I-70 Speedway is going to run six non-wing sprint car shows in 2007. I-70 is the second track in the midwest to announce some non-wing shows. Eagle Raceway will run some wingless dates in '07 as well. I think I can take credit for this trend. I e-mailed Eagle Raceway owner Roger Haden last season, telling him that non-wings would be a good idea. I'm positive that's what prompted Roger to try the wingless stuff! Probably not, but I'm glad they're taking the wings off some around here. I did see a rumor that Knoxville Raceway was going to run some non-wing stuff as well. Nothing has been planned for 2007 and I don't think it will happen.
In a NASCAR-esque drama, it looks like the World of Outlaws will fine drivers Terry McCarl and Joey Saldana for their shenanigans in California last week. I understand that drivers must face some type of penalties for their actions, but I'd hate to see the WoO neuter their driver's personalities like what happens in the fender series.
On a personal note, my home computer had a little crash of its own yesterday. I'm not sure how long it will be before its back on track so I might not be able to update this site as much as I'd like until it's fixed. Stupid technology, although it was probably more of a case of driver (operator) error as much as anything.
That's all for now. Someday the snow will melt and we can go racing again.
