Nobody Asked Me But... (Warning: Blatant Rip Off)

This column format has been done many times over the years by Bruce Ellis, first in the pages of Open Wheel Magazine, and now in Sprint Car Magazine. Bruce is by far a better writer than I am, but for your entertainment I humbly submit my own version of Nobody Asked Me But...

I think there is some cause for alarm given the car counts at places like Knoxville in recent weeks. On Saturday, only six cars participated in the 410 B main.

I feel that a lot of race teams miss the boat in regards to seeking sponsorship. This sport isn't getting any cheaper, but if people were more creative in how they presented their team to potential sponsors, running an operation might be more economically feasible.

The track at Eagle on Saturday night was the best I've seen it this year. Of course I haven't been there in as much as in previous seasons. It was still one racy joint on Saturday.

As nice an evening as it was at Eagle, I still found it pretty lame they wouldn't let me bring my own bag of sunflower seeds in. Petty I know...but come on...A bag of seeds? The customer was upset with that one.

I think Brian Brown has what it takes to run with the Outlaws full time. I'm sure a lot of the other teams around here would agree.

I could watch midget racing seven nights a week and twice on Sundays.

Strides have been made but winged sprint cars are still too locked down.

I'll take my sprints either way, but I guess I'm old fashioned. Wingless just seems a little more "pure" to me. Although 90% of the sprint car races I've watched in my life have been with wings.

I think Donny Schatz is going to team up with Tony Stewart Racing next season. I guess that means we'll be seeing that Bowtie logo in victory lane a lot in 2008.

It's about time Chevy got involved with grassroots open wheel racing on a corporate level. When was the last time the engine of choice in sprint cars wasn't based on the small block Chevy?

Ford Racing is the perennial slacker when it comes manufacturer involvement. There's Mopar, now Chevy, hell Toyota is even rumored to be upping their involvement to sprints and silver crowns in the years to come. Come on Blue Oval, you do well in midgets and silver crowns, why not sprint cars too?

Budweiser should forget all about NASCAR and sponsor a sprint car team.

Beer does taste better when you're drinking it while watching sprint cars.

The only good thing about Tony Stewart's and Kasey Kahne's involvement in NASCAR is it affords them the luxury to throw money back to their open wheel roots.

It's sad when Mario Andretti tries to re-unite major open wheel racing and nobody listens.

I still see cases of too many tracks and race organizations taking the race fans for granted. Perhaps some day I'll be in a position to put some money where my mouth is on this. For now, I say promote the hell out of your shows and treat the fans like royalty.

I should really stop ripping off other writer's ideas for columns and come up with something on my own.
