-In spite of the gas prices, I think there’s opportunity out there for track promoters. Fuel will impact the price of airline tickets, keeping many families closer to home on their summer trips.
Why not provide them a reason to build a vacation around a race event? I know people do that every summer, but providing the incentive to drive a few hours from home, rather than fly somewhere may bring more people to the track.
-Eagle’s weekly sprint car series can’t withstand many more rough weekends. Teams can only rebuild a broken car so many times before the money or desire runs out.
-Having a small part in the local racing “scene” is one of the biggest joys of my life. I hope that never goes away.
-Push truck drivers never have, and never will, get the credit they deserve.
-Congratulations to Tom Schmeh on your move the Curator of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.
Tom is one of the nicest guys in racing, and I’m honored to call him a friend. He’ll do a great job guiding the museum.
-Racing is the ultimate extreme sport. Why not market it that way?
-It was fun having so many familiar faces at Knoxville on Friday night. Several Nebraska based teams ran, and there was a full contingent of Lincoln-based photographers, and even a stray push truck driver.
-Mike Boston looked every bit as bad at Knoxville as he looked good at Eagle. Boston is a fine driver, but looked lost running the half-mile on Friday night. Knoxville has done that to a lot of good drivers over the years.
Boston did rebound nicely on Saturday, winning the feature at Eagle Raceway.
-Billy Alley currently sits second in 410 Knoxville Championship Cup points, 230 points behind leader Danny Lasoski.
Alley has definitely gotten back on the right track this year. It’s nice to see the yellow 22 running up front.
-USAC’s rule for locking in the top six finishers from the prelim night into the top six starting spots in the following night’s feature is beyond idiotic.
It’s one of many things USAC does that is beyond idiotic.
-There were numerous IRL employees at Knoxville Friday night. Too bad none of them will help any of the drivers they watched land an IndyCar ride.
-The traffic getting in to Iowa Speedway for the IndyCar race Sunday flowed nicely. Apparently they decided to save the two hours of waiting in your car until after the race.
Maybe next year they’ll get it right both ways.
-The Iowa IndyCar race was very entertaining. I’ve really grown fond of watching races there.
-Moving is a terrible way to spend your time. If you ever have the opportunity to move, pass.
