A Tribute, Outlaws and Vacant Tracks

First Up...

Jason Orth has a very nice tribute piece on his site http://www.heartlandracenews.com/ about Mike Cacak. If you haven't already read it, be sure to visit his site and take a look.

If you're at Eagle this weekend, make sure to sign the banner and donate a couple bucks towards Mike's recovery.

Recap

On Tuesday we jumped in the car and made the drive to Huset's Speedway to catch the World of Outlaws. Huset's is a great little track but I was very disappointed with the show.

My Take...

-The track was tacky and fast all night, so much that there was very little passing. After driving three hours and paying $30 for a ticket I was hoping for more.

-The Outlaws are the fastest anywhere but it doesn't mean much when they're so fast they can't race. Watching a three hour hot lap session isn't my idea of a good time.

-However it was still a fun road trip. Huset's is a cool facility with a lot of great sprint car history. Huset's is one of the only tracks in the country that runs a weekly 410 program. It's an easy drive from Lincoln so I think perhaps Tuesday won't be my last trip up North this summer.

-Jack Dover had a good night running with the Outlaws on Tuesday. He qualified out of his heat into the A and finished 21. Jack ran hard against some heavy hitters.

-The King has never looked as mortal as he has this year. He has crashed three times that I've seen him this year. Of course he has won several features, and placed in the top five and top ten many times. The problem is you compare him to what he was years ago and that's probably not fair. I wonder when the King will hang it up. I'd rather see him retire while he's still competitive rather than hang on too long.

-Park Jefferson Speedway is located right off the interstate on the way to Sioux Falls. We stopped off on the way back to take some pics of both PJ and the now closed Interstate Speedway directly across the tracks.

Park Jefferson was a very nice looking facility and I hope they get a sprint race there again. Interstate is a little bull right that's been closed, but we noticed new facilities being built and the people were there cleaning up the infield. Perhaps Interstate hasn't seen its last race.

It's a true sickness when you stop to take pics of vacant tracks. This isn't the first time we've done this and it certainly won't be the last.

And Finally...

-I hope everyone had a great and safe 4th of July! Tuesday felt like Friday, yesterday seemed like a Sunday and today feels like a Monday but it's Thursday and tomorrow is Friday. I just don't know what day of the week it is. All I know is racing on Saturday.

-I'll be back at Knoxville to run promotions for NOS. As always I'd invite anyone making the drive from Lincoln to stop by and say hello. There's a good chance you'll leave our display with a t-shirt and cold drink in hand.

-I'd like to road trip to Indiana and catch some of USAC's sprint week but I don't know if I'll be able to do that. Maybe we'll sneak back there and catch a couple shows before we head back to home. There's an epic battle brewing at Little Sunset Speedway on July 13. Further details to follow.
