COMMENTARY-JMS Night #2
Different night, same result, as Kevin Swindell once again proved to be the class of the field, and captured Wednesday's Cornhusker Midget Classic main event. Both nights at JMS had lots of good racing, and the feature was entertaining until the end, as runner-up Chad Boat made one last attempt for the win at the line.
My Take...
-JMS is a world-class facility. I wish they'd run more open wheel over there so I could go more often. You can really get spoiled at a place like that.
Plus, since JMS is so close to York, I always see someone there that I grew up with. It's still strange for me to see former classmates at the races.
-Kevin Swindell certainly earned his feature win, holding off Chad Boat (who is developing into a great driver), Davy Ray, Brad Kuhn and Dave Darland. That is a pretty stout top five!
-Bobby East debuted a brand new car, and just missed out on the top five with a sixth place run. East will carry the Oval Ops decal with him into the Belleville Midget Nationals, and hopefully into victory lane on Saturday night.
His car owner, Terry Klatt, is due for a Nationals triumph.
-Davy Ray is scheduled to part ways with the Kenny Love owned midget, and drive an Esslinger Ford for the RFMS team at Belleville.
-Jerry Coons Jr. popped another Mopar last night. I like Coons, and I have a lot of respect for the Wilke-Pak team, but I'm glad to see another Mopar bite the dust. They sure put out plenty of power, maybe a little too much at times.
-Speaking of power, it was tough to watch a Toyota powered team come in and sweep the event. Swindell should be tough at Belleville, but I don't want to see the Toyota colors in victory lane anymore this week.
-JMS should be commended on their choice for Miss Cornhusker Midget Nationals. She was one of the prettiest trophy girls I've seen.
I still think I should be one of the judges for that pageant next year.
-Overall, I think Junction did a pretty good job this week with the CMC. I think there's potential for this event to become a big time show in the coming years.
