COMMENTARY-In Four Days...

In four days, my bachelorhood comes to an end.

In four days, I'll spend my first Saturday night in months doing something other than attending a race.

In case you missed it, I'm marrying my long suffering girlfriend Erin this Saturday night here in Lincoln. With that kind of news, there's always a little ribbing that goes on, especially from people like me, who go to races on Saturday nights.

Erin has put up with my racing habit for a long, long time. We started dating in May of 1999. That's right, almost ten years ago.

Erin is incredibly smart, much more so than I am. She's in graduate school, studying to become a Physician Assistant. In spite of all her intellect, she's kept me around all these years.

In that time, she's seen my addiction to the sport grow with each passing summer. Make no mistake, she enjoys going to the races, but feels that it's not essential to spend every spring and summer weekend at the track. Apparently, normal people don't do that.

So, while Erin planned a wedding and studied her way through her Physician Assistant program this summer, her silly fiancée went to races.

I'm sure she's rolled her eyes behind my back more than a few of times, as I left her to go watch a race. In spite of that, she still thinks it's a good idea to marry me.

I'm very fortunate to have met someone so willing to overlook my obvious character flaws.

So, in four days, I'll spend a Saturday night not at the races, but with the person I love most in this world, and I couldn't be happier.
