COMMENTARY-Sprint Bandits
I made my first, and only trip to I-80 Speedway last night to watch the TNT Sprint Bandits run the big 4/10 mile.
My take...
-There were 23 sprinters in the pits Tuesday night. Not great, but enough to have a complete show, minus a B main.
-The track was in beautiful shape all night. The non-wing cars really got some good bite coming off the corners, especially out of four. It was common for cars to run the entire front stretch on two or three wheels.
-Dave Darland was again flawless, running the Scott Benic owned 2B at the front most of the night. Darland did have his hands full with Brady Bacon. The two had an entertaining battle, weaving through lapped traffic.
Bacon was not able to finish the feature, sidelined by fuel pickup problems. From then on, it was Darland's race.
-Damion Gardner finished second, Robert Ballou third, Darren Hagan fourth, and Charles Davis Jr. rounded out the top five.
-There wasn't much carnage Tuesday for the sprints. Mike Leslie had a late race flip, but was uninjured.
-As good as Darland was, the performance of the night came from late model and modified driver Kyle Berck. The Marquette, Nebraska native won the late model feature (utilizing Ford power), and jumped into a modified and proceeded to win that race as well. I guess if you're going to run two features, you might as well win them both.
Wish I could have seen him jump into a sprinter and given that a try!
And Finally...
Saturday I'll be at Eagle Raceway. It'll be my last race for a couple weeks, and my last as a bachelor.
