COMMENTARY-Iowa Speedweek, Part 2

A day removed from the Nationals and I'm still a little tired. It was a long week, and with everything we had going on, a lot of work.

Still, in spite of being stressed for much of the week, I had fun. Being a small part of a big event like that is a dream come true. So much has happened in the last week that it's hard to remember everything.

My take...

-Steve and Sammy. It's been a while since we've gotten to watch a duel between those two, but it happened on Friday night during the A Scramble. Kinser got the best of Swindell (and everyone else) by winning the race.

I doubt we'll have many more chances to watch those two race, and to be at Knoxville, watching those two battle was like going back ten years.

-We were reminded of just how violent racing can be on Thursday night. Jeff Shepard's crash looked bad, and I think he's lucky he survived. Hopefully, Shepard can recover to live a normal life

Thank God for the outstanding work of the Knoxville Raceway Fire and Rescue crews. They are the best in the business.

-Tyler Walker once again drove into controversy. Late in Saturday's A Feature, Walker's motor expired. As Walker slowed down, it looked as though he would duck into the pits and off the race surface.

Instead, Walker stayed on the track and rolled right past the pit entrance.

Without knowing exactly what was happening in Walker's car, it's hard to say what he was thinking. From my perspective, it looked as though he could have made it safely into the pits, and the race could have gone on, uninterrupted.

However, I'm sure the world looks different through the visor.

-The caution did help Donny Schatz, who took advantage of the caution to reel in race leader Jason Meyers. Schatz eventually passed Meyers, and win on to win his third Nationals title in a row.

-I was rooting for Meyers. I wanted to see a new name added to the winner's list, but Schatz is still the best car and driver combination going.

I had a great time this week, but I'm not sure if I'd be ready to have another one like it anytime soon. My thanks to Mike, Aaron, and Adam for all of their help in running the NOS promos during the week.

I could not have done it without you guys, thank you!
