A few photos and a few thoughts.

Rick Ideus finished 8th. (CSMoses)

Garry Lee Maier was credited with 9th. (CSMoses)

Brian Brown suffered driveline problems and finished 20th. (CSMoses)

My take...

-I was not happy with the overall quality of racing. I've never been a fan of overly-dry tracks. With the groove hugging the inside wall it looked like passing was difficult and didn't make for very competitive races. There was some racing back in the pack, but hardly any for the lead in most of the races.

-Tough break for Brian Brown but I think many people in the stands were happy to see someone other than 21 take the feature victory. Brown has made a habit of winning races in Nebraska and at I-80 Speedway. As much as he wins it hard not to cheer for him. He's gracious in victory and defeat and I'm sure he'll make up for last night in the next ASCS event.

-I hope that Adam Gullion is able to get the car ready for Eagle Raceway's opening night on Saturday. Gullion flipped in hot laps and wasn't able to run the rest of the event. He might be a candidate for the worst luck of the week. Saturday he was plagued with engine problems and Sunday the flip.

-Thankfully there wasn't as much carnage last night as there was on Saturday.

-Jack Dover bounced back nicely from Saturday night to finish 5th in the feature. Coming from the B that was not an easy task last night!

-Lee Grosz put together a great run as well. He started 19th and come home 12th.

-Don Droud Jr. sure looked fast in the Ochs Brothers 1Z. Another five laps in the feature and he might have made it interesting with winner Chuck Swenson. Swenson however looked awfully strong and drove a flawless race. I'm not sure what Jr.'s plans are for the season, but I think Ochs Brothers would be wise in keeping Jr. in the driver's seat for a while.

-There were a few less Nebraska cars competing on Sunday. I can't say as I blame them, Saturday night tore up a lot of equipment and the payout wasn't worth the risk as well as burning up tires on that abrasive track. I'm sure it was just as easy to save the equipment for Eagle next week and begin the points chase there.

-I was told that Mike Boston was driving a "prototype" Maxim chassis. From all indications it must have been working well because Boston looked fast all week. He'll be tough defending his 2006 Eagle Championship this year.

-I talked with Rodney Droud and it looks like he's set to run a few shows this year. It'll be good to see him back at the track a little more often this year than last.

And Finally...

All in all it wasn't the best weekend I've racing I've ever seen from a competition stand point. However it sure feels good that the season is upon us, and the weather finally warmed up! I hope that Chad Humston is able to recover from his injuries he sustained on Saturday night. He's a good kid and a fine racer. I hope he'll make it back into a race car very soon!
