Eagle Reactions
My 40th event of the season and fitting that it was a return home to Eagle. On a warm Saturday evening a packed house saw a week's worth of action in just one night, and 262 kids go home happy with new bikes.
Mike Boston had a great night, winning the make-up feature and finising second in the regular show. Jack Dover returned to Eagle in style, dominating the weekly race and putting the finishing touches to a great week off from Knoxville.
One points night remains and the battle for the Eagle points championship is still undecided. Current points leader Jeff Grifis, Adam Gullion, and Mike Boston will fight it out next Saturday to determine the season champion.
My Take...
-Dover dominated the second feature. He looked as fast as I've ever seen him run on Saturday. After a challenging season at Knoxville full of bad luck, it's nice to see the young driver have some success in front of his 'home' crowds at I-80 on Tuesday and again at Eagle Saturday. Two feature wins in a week can do wonders for a driver's confidence. Hopefully the hot streak will continue at Knoxville this coming Saturday.
-My thanks to Team Dover for once again sporting the NOS Energy Drink Colors
-I've said it before and I'll say it again, Mike Boston runs Eagle as well as anybody I've ever watched there.
-Rhonda Bryan and the entire Bryan race team outdid themselves this year! Over 260 bikes given away on Kid's Night! It was really a cool scene watching those two semis pull onto the front stretch and all of those bikes unloaded.
Rhonda doesn't get the credit she deserves for putting on such a great event. If I know Rhonda, I'm sure she's already working towards topping this year's bike total.
-The final Fan Appreciation Night looked like a success judging by the full grandstands. In fact I can't remember ever seeing a larger crowd at Eagle. Nice work to Roger and the Eagle staff to get the fans out to the races.
-The track looked pretty smooth throughout the night. It did dry out, that's going to happen with the heavy volume of cars running.
-I was told there were 38 sprinters in the pits on Saturday. That's a very nice car count.
And Finally...
-Don Droud Jr. finished fifth on Saturday night in the TNT Sprint Bandits race at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City.
-I like the fact that the Eagle season championship for sprints comes down to the final weekly race.
-The Nebraska Cup race has been re-scheduled from September 1st to September 2nd. I'd like to see this event become a more important race. Perhaps they could make it an ASCS show and get some of the other area talent to join in with the local teams. I think having a big 360 show on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend would be a good way to conclude a season. Just a thought.
